MineWatch Northland invites you to a Public Meeting :
Communities Against Mining
Hear John Krey, of Bulga, an Australian community rising up against mining giant Rio Tinto, and long time Coromandel anti-mining activist (and Green Party list MP) Catherine Delahunty on defending communities against mining.
More of Bulga’s story at http://bulga.theglobalmail.org/ (ch 3)
Mining exploration permits are being activated in Northland, and drilling is starting as an early step towards mining. Apart from permits that have been granted at Puhipuhi and the nearby Russell Forest, forested areas near Whangaroa, and Waimatenui, new permits or extensions have just been granted – under the radar – near Kaeo and at Whangarei’s Kauri Mountain.
It is very much the right time for communities to get active, find out what the real facts are about the effects of mining and who will benefit (and who won’t!), and get organised!
Learn from other communities’ experiences. And get connected. Piki mai ra!
|DATE||Friday 8 November|
|VENUE||Leigh Hall, St John’s Church Centre, 149 Kamo Rd, Whangarei|
